The American friends of

CHÂTEAU DE ROSA BONHEUR

Acquisitions

Since 2018, the year the association was founded, nearly 40 works have joined the collections of the Château de Rosa Bonheur, enriching the visitor experience.

These acquisitions serve a dual purpose: on the one hand, they contribute to the restoration and promotion of the Château de Rosa Bonheur as a site of history and culture; on the other hand, they are part of a broader scholarly project. Each work and each document helps deepen the study of the artist, retrace the stages of her life and career, and share with as wide an audience as possible the artistic and human legacy she left us.

We would like to express our gratitude to the generous donors, both individuals and companies, whose contributions continually enrich the château’s collections. These acquisitions are made possible thanks to the generosity of our members and partners, as well as the funds that the association dedicates to this noble mission. Thanks to them, we are able to continue restoring, studying, and exhibiting these treasures to the public.

If you would like to contribute to this project by donating works or documents to the American Friends of the Château de Rosa Bonheur, we invite you to contact us.

Restoration

The American Friends of the Château de Rosa Bonheur is actively committed to preserving this emblematic site, in order to maintain its unique character and revive the spirit of the artist. Thanks to the invaluable support of generous patrons, we have been able to contribute to several restoration projects.

This work, essential for the conservation of the site and its collections, helps protect this exceptional heritage while making it accessible to future generations. Every contribution is a valuable gesture that helps to perpetuate Rosa Bonheur’s legacy in the very place where she created and lived.

Research

The American Friends of the Château de Rosa Bonheur actively supports the research missions carried out within the château’s archives—the artist’s final residence and, after her, that of the Klumpke sisters. For more than 120 years, these archives have preserved invaluable treasures: letters, sketches, glass plates, journals, notebooks, and personal objects. These documents are of crucial importance not only for artistic heritage, but also for the history of the 19th and 20th centuries. Thanks to the dedication of archivist Michel Pons, more than 70,000 documents have already been brought to light.

By encouraging the reception of students and researchers at the château, the association fosters the exchange of ideas and the emergence of new perspectives on the work of this major figure in art. This research work, essential to the understanding and promotion of Rosa Bonheur, is one of the association’s core missions.

Cultural Outreach

The American Friends of the Château de Rosa Bonheur is fully committed to promoting the cultural influence of the artist’s work and legacy. By organizing a variety of cultural, scientific, and educational events, the association helps bring Rosa Bonheur’s exceptional heritage to a wide audience. Each year, it notably organizes the Rosa Bonheur Festival, a flagship event dedicated to female musical creation, which highlights contemporary talent while celebrating the artist’s innovative and committed spirit.

These initiatives, which combine art, culture, and discovery, contribute to the mission of passing on and enhancing Rosa Bonheur’s work, keeping it alive and inspiring new generations.
